My newest book, Moving Forward: From Space-Age Rides to Civil Rights Sit-Ins with Airman Alton Yates (illustrated by Steffi Walthall), now has a terrific discussion guide provided by the book’s publisher, Simon & Schuster.

You can download it here.

Created by Myra Zarnowski, a professor in the Department of Elementary and Early Childhood Education at Queens College, CUNY, the guide includes loads of questions, ideas, images, and other resources split into several sections across six pages:

  • Reading and Responding to the Book
  • Examining the Author’s Craft
  • Examining the Illustrator’s Craft
  • Writing About the Book
  • Extending the Experience of Reading the Book

I’ve included a couple of the guide’s pages below, but please grab a copy of the whole thing. And if you use the book with your students, I’d love to hear from you about how that went.
