As noted previously, I’ve not read any of the Harry Potter books, and with this business about who all J.K. Rowling will/might/oughta/could/can’t/shan’t/mustn’t/cussn’t kill off in the final volume, lately I’ve felt even less inclined to add them to my to-read list.
Then I read Defective Yeti’s recent take on Half Blood Prince and how to get quickly caught up on books 1-5, and now I’m back in the “probably will, eventually” camp. Though, given a choice, I think I’d rather read 1,000 pages of Defective Yeti.
Thanks for the new blog! Great fun to read it. I’m not infected by HP either and see no need to be! Lots of great other reading out there on the bookshelf already…..

I got addicted to HP back in 1999 when I visited London and bought #2 for my mom (it hadn’t come out in America yet). Since then I’ve been continually charmed by the series. Ignore the hype. Read the books for fun. That’s what they were made for, for crying out loud.

I remember walking into a book store and seeing HP#1 (no others were out yet) and telling my daughter, “I’ve heard of this book somewhere. Let’s buy it and read it together.” She was 8 years old.
We read a chapter together for two afternoons. At the end of our reading time, my girl asked me if she could just take the book upstairs and read “a few more pages.” A few hours later she floated downstairs having finished the book and our lives were forever changed.
I love Harry. He is a grand lad. The books are full of heart and love, honesty and friendship. I can tell from the books being checked out at the libraries that there is a whole new generation of kids just starting the series now.
I agree with Fuse#8. Don’t let the hype wave you off. They are just plain fun.
