My recent nonfiction picture book How to Make a Book (About My Dog) goes into not only the writing and illustrating but the entire production process. For an absolutely fascinating look at the latter end of that process, have a look at “How a Book Is Made,” a recent New York Times piece written by Elizabeth A. Harris and filled with photos and videos by Thomas Prior.

The article details the printing of Moon Witch, Spider King, the new novel by Marlon James. As the author of The Day-Glo Brothers, I especially appreciated this tidbit about James’ book: “Most covers are printed using black, cyan, magenta and yellow ink, but two additional colors were used to print this one: Day-Glo green and a special blue.”
