The end of one year and beginning of the next is always full-to-bursting with lists of favorite TV shows, podcasts, music, movies — and books, of course.
For authors, it’s especially nice to see one of our books included on one of those lists. This season I’ve been fortunate to see Glitter Everywhere! Where It Came From, Where It’s Found & Where It’s Going show up and then show up again and then yet again.
Most recently, Glitter Everywhere! (written by me, illustrated by Chaaya Prabhat, and published by Charlesbridge) has brought its seriously researched sparkle to the Nerdy Book Club’s 2023 Nerdies: Nonfiction Picture Books and to the CYBILS (Children’s and Young Adult Book Lovers Literary Awards) 2023 Nonfiction Finalists – Elementary.
(In the case of the latter, way back when the B in CYBILS still stood for “blogger” and I was busily blogging while waiting for my first book to be published, I myself served as a judge, so it’s especially nice to be recognized by them.)
Thank you to to the Nerdies and CYBILS folks and to everyone who puts their time and effort into creating such lists and sharing them with the wider world. I truly appreciate it not only as an author, but also as a reader.
Generously pointing others toward the great work being done by creators of books for young readers is a vital part of this children’s literature ecosystem — an ecosystem that, if you’re reading this post, you’re a part of, too.
