My author visits for the 2024-25 school year start this week, and how I have missed doing those! I’m so glad to be back at it.

Among my very first presentations will be a performance of Shark vs. Train for pre-kindergartners, kindergartners, and first graders — most of whom had not yet been born when this book celebrated its tenth anniversary a few years ago.

I’ve made 22 more books since Shark vs. Train (illustrated by Tom Lichtenheld and published in 2010 by Little, Brown), but I love how this book will always be a new one for readers who experience it the first time.

And I’ve seen enough loved-to-tatters copies of Shark vs. Train to know that many adults who are well-acquainted with this book could use a fresh copy from time to time, so…

This month I’m giving away four signed copies of Shark vs. Train to subscribers to my monthly Bartography Express newsletter (folks can sign up here).

Shark vs. Train is just one of the titles included in my September 2024 book giveaway! Four Bartography Express subscribers will win one copy of every giveaway title, which also include The Beautiful Game, Can I Touch Your Hair? and The Great Lakes — that’s four winners of four books each.

If you’d like one of those winners to be you, by the end of the month either say so in the comments below or email me directly, and you’ll be in the running. (Subscribers with U.S. mailing addresses only.)

And If you know another reader, family member, educator, or librarian who you think might appreciate Shark vs. Train — be it their first-ever copy or a replacement — won’t you please let them know, too?
