Aside from getting some ink, my main accomplishment yesterday was sharing a new story for the first time by sending a draft to a friend for a critique.
It didn’t feel like as much of an accomplishment as I’d hoped, though — the version I have now pales in comparison to the version I’ve had in my head for the past few months. It’s not yet as emotionally rich as what I was shooting for.
On the other hand, it is an actual, detailed story now, with characters I hadn’t envisioned and little plot twists I hadn’t planned, as opposed to the vague blob of emotional richness I’d been carrying around in my cerebrum, so that’s got to account for something. I’d say that’s progress.
Plus, as soon as I sent the story off, I thought of a better ending…
Sounds like an accomplishment to me, Chris. It’s so much easier to edit, add, and craft once it’s on paper.
