If you’ve seen the glitter news from Europe (Allure says, “The EU’s Ban on Glitter Has Officially Gone Into Effect,” and Vogue asks, “Is This the End of Glitter As We Know It?”), you may wonder how it affects my nonfiction picture book Glitter Everywhere!
Well, for starters, the book itself contains no actual glitter — plastic or otherwise.
But more importantly, illustrator Chaaya Prabhat and I do address the issue of glitter being a microplastic, go into some detail about attempts to develop biodegradable glitter, and emphasize the need to confirm that biodegradable types actually do what their manufacturers claim. I’m pretty pleased with that.
Read it for yourself, and sparkle responsibly!
