Welcome to the 60th episode of This One’s Dedicated to…, in which Jennifer Ziegler and I share our quick conversation with author Leila Sales about the dedication she wrote for her YA novel Tonight the Streets Are Ours (Farrar, Straus and Giroux Books for Young Readers, 2015).
Tonight the Streets Are Ours is just one of the titles included in the October 2024 book giveaway that I’m doing for subscribers to my monthly Bartography Express newsletter (you can subscribe here).
Four Bartography Express subscribers will win one copy of each giveaway title — multiple winners, multiple books! If you’d like one of those winners to be you, by the end of October 2024 either say so in the comments below or email me directly, and you’ll be in the running. (U.S. mailing addresses only.)
Thanks for watching, and please visit the main This One’s Dedicated to… page for more episodes and a look at who Jennifer and I will be talking with soon.
Thank you for this monthly opportunity to win free books for my school libraries!
I had a revelation today, as a librarian I read aloud 27 times a week. I always share something about the cover art, or title page, or spine label/ call number, or Dewey category, or genre, etc, but I rarely if ever read or discuss the dedication. Why? I don’t know why, but after listening to episodes 59 and 60, I am going to make it a point to preview the dedication page of books I plan to read aloud. I’m convinced that sharing and discussing the dedication page can be a tremendous pre-reading activity that can provide additional connections to a text by the reader. Thanks for this podcast… blessed to be learning something new everyday, still!
