Some of you may recall my post six months ago when I related an exhilarating e-mail I had just received from an editor. She told me that the two main characters in a project of mine were, and I quote, “the bomb.”

“The bomb”? That’s pretty powerful praise, right? And while I’m no munitions expert, my understanding of bombs is that it’s best to do something with them — detonate them, fling them, drop them, defuse them, whatever — in a timely fashion.

So, whatever became of said explosive literary device?

Well, so far, nothing. All I’ve heard since then was, within the past month or so, an apology for there not being any news. No offer, no rejection, no feedback, no explanation.

I love the children’s publishing business. But I don’t always get it.
